One down, 11 to go
“We have to remain non-violent”
Meanwhile, the far right nutjobs
Despite the fact that this article explains the same thing like 5 times in a row as if I’m an idiot … uh, damn, Meta. Let me make sure I don’t have your apps on my phone.
It’s supposed to be eye-catching in order to make people pick it up and read it, that’s book marketing 101. But also? Fuck Sam Altman
There’s something that needs to be done, and that something is drastic, and a lot of people don’t want to hear, or see it. But we can’t keep going forward as a country where more than half of people are violent sociopaths, or enablers of the latter.
I highly recommend using Anubis as a proxy for your entire instance. It’s a little complicated to get going, but it stops any and all AI scrapers with a denial of access. Having a robots.txt works, but only so much, because some of these bots do not respect it. And, honestly, with the way Sam Altman talks about the people he’s stolen and scraped from, I don’t think anyone should be surprised.
But, I have Anubis running on my personal website and I’ve tested to see if ChatGPT can see it, and it cannot. Good enough for me
I did, dipshit
How them boots taste, Mr. Fig?
No, you understand correctly. Notabot just doesn’t know what they’re talking about
Haha sorry, would have responded earlier but am stuck at work
I actually just launched a PHPBB forum for specific interests in regards to the indie web, building websites, and sharing random banter (among a few other things). I find Reddit and Lemmy to be useful for seeing what’s going on in the world overall, and Discord has mostly just been annoying ever since its launch, and forums seem like a good answer to recreating actual communities. And if there are more people who feel this way, maybe they’ll make a comeback (because they definitely haven’t just started to be affected by corporations attempting to centralize everyone to one thing).
And that’s the kicker. Bluesky can never be meaningfully decentralized.
I mean, they’re going to have to. There’s no other choice at this point
Yeah, that’s true. If they’re not using names, then there’s not a whole lot you can do. And blocking IPs is impossible, because they use different IPs constantly.
But!
With my post, and your suggestions, this is the “something” that’s better than doing absolutely nothing
Just like when mastodon.social condemned Meta for their horrible moderation decisions and inability to act properly in the interest of its users, and said that the instance would be cutting ties/not federating with Threads, they kept on federating like nothing happened.
I don’t believe anything coming out of mastodon.social unless I can see action being taken with my own two eyes.
Also, blocking scrapers is very easy, and it has nothing to do with a robots.txt (which they ignore).
