Meta have always done this. Years ago when I used to use Facebook they would constantly change privacy settings so my posts or whatever were visible to my more then direct friends.
I used the one-step process to opt-out : <delete-account>
No, I don’t have the illusion the data will be gone, just as I don’t think the opt-out really works. Meta just don’t get more data and advertisement revenue out of me.
Meta is just terrible at making privacy-focused things work as they should and yet they write things like “We care about your privacy”
They do care about your privacy a great deal, in fact. It’s said privacy that makes them money.
This dark pattern seems similar to what spammy companies do. After registering you’re automatically registering to 10 differents newsletters/spamlist. Clicking unsubsribe at the bottom of a newsletter removes you from 1 out of 10 lists. People either need to repeat the operation, or better, delete their account.
sooner or later they are either going to require another facial scan, or they decide it cant be opted out of.
I opted out a long time ago by not using any of their shit.
I would bet my life you have unknowingly used and supported them
I used WhatsApp once for a job interview using a throwaway email and immediately deleted the app. Don’t use Facebook, Instagram or threads.
