Introducing the song that gives the tour its name, he said: “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration. Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!”
”Beacon of liberty“ is a bit strong when you have a rich history of segregation and slavery for a big portion of the population.
So, you’re saying, “why try, because it was never that good anyway” ?
Is that your point or am I misreading it?
Yeah you misread what I meant at least. Springsteen, according to the quote, says the America he sings of has been a beacon of liberty for 250 years, which obviously isn’t an accurate depiction. The vision and ideal was liberty for all and a right to pursuit of happiness, but with some very troubling caveats that put a huge stain on those ideals.
