The State Department on Tuesday warned citizens against any travel to Venezuela, where it says more U.S. nationals are currently wrongfully detained than in any other country.

The department has ramped up its warnings to Americans not to travel to the South American country, urging citizens earlier this month to prepare a will if they plan to travel there.

US citizens that travel to Venezuela should be aware of not insignificant risc of being detained for political reasons. It is a valid concern, and same applies for venezolanos going to US.

I’m in Canada and my cousin asked for advice on travelling to Europe. He was about to book a flight that would have a stop over in New York and I told him that whatever you do … DON’T GO INTO THE US … I even offered to give him the couple hundred bucks to book a different more direct flight because he was trying to save money. I used to travel a bit years ago, now I don’t so I often have family and friends ask me for advice on travelling overseas. For the past few months, I think I’ve stopped about four people from going to the US or having a stopover in the US.
