  • A 2 week old account posting over 250 times in that tiny duration, spending every single post completely blasting the Liberals and pretending to care about the NDP.

    Hmmm…

Not sure I’ve ever seen such an egregious case of being on someone’s payroll. Then again, I guess there’s a chance this is someone so cripplingly, unapologetically far down the right-wing misinformation pipeline that they’ve completely lost control of their life and spend every waking moment trying to get images of the Liberals inviting immigrants into Canada and shutting down oil pipelines out of their heads.

    1. I am hard convinced that most “Albertan” seperatists are genuinely astroturfers trying to sway Canadian politics.

    2. The ones that are legit are your bog-standard victimized conservative types. Every hardship they’ve ever faced is the fault of someone taking something they “deserve” with no genuine logic behind it rather than a self-centered belief that they are entitled to a level of prosperity that the majority of the world can barely dream of. So they aren’t mad about one or more clear things; it’s the general sense that they deserve more than they’ve been given, and the constant lie that others have been taking from them.

  • I am not.

    Nationalist:

a person who strongly identifies with their own nation and vigorously supports its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

    Federalist:

a person who advocates or supports a system of government in which several states unite under a central authority.

Both pulled from the OxfordLanguages dictionary that Google uses.

And, of course, Nazi is short for the German pronunciation of “National Socialist.”

The problem is not a belief in government. The problem is in the belief that there is something intrinsically better about your nation that gives you justification to look down on other nations. Fuck nationalism.

  • You know, voter fatigue is a thing. I can’t imagine people are happy to go back to the polls for this by-election and there’s something of a foregone conclusion that Polievere wins by default anyway. I don’t think the region is likely to suddenly churn out enough Liberal support to deny him the seat, but I suspect that, as bored and tired of this the CPC voters must be, the other voters are likely galvanized by the opportunity to tell Polievere that they don’t want him coming from away and using them, as opposed to doing his job and representing a community. And even a district shiftf from 85-15 to 65-35 is embarrassing for Polievere.

There’s a real potential for comedy here, and at the very least, I suspect it’ll be even more embarrassing for the conservatives yet.

  • I explicitly stay away from such groups. I call it out in person, and politely check my friends when they say something that they might not realize is harmful, exactly the same way I expect them to check me, but that’s just it. That kind of discourse isn’t welcome in these groups because they were created with one explicit purpose: to justify and normalize the absolute shittiest behavioursof the most sexiest of male culture.

She’s right, it isn’t a small amount of men. But it’s a supermajority in certain circles, and a tiny, neglible minority in others. She, unfortunately, exposed herself to the worst of men enmasse. We should instead go to those latter circles, and avoid/ostracize those former circles, until they realize if their only goal is sex, they’ll have to figure out how to be a decent person first. And men, choose to be better.
