  • Well that headline is ambiguous. I thought at first it meant customers which sex workers deem dangerous will be criminalised. I.e. if you hit a sex worker then it’s a specific crime outside of standard assault, like assaulting a police officer is a separate crime from standard assault.

But no, we can’t have safer working conditions for sex workers, it’s just a standard pearl clutching “think of the children” bigoted conservative proposal.

Fuck Alba, they don’t even know how to pronounce their own party’s name let alone govern. They’re a poison on the independence movement and bring nothing but intolerance

  • Nice one, go kids!

Driving (hell, even cycling, I’ve been almost squashed more than once) anywhere near a primary school during the start or end of the school day is an absolute nightmare because of all the mum-mobiles fighting to get as close to the gates as they can. They’re so stressed about getting their little cherub into their BMW ChildSquasher9000 that they forget to look at the road or their surroundings.

Unless you’re in a small rural town or village, most the students at a primary school are within walking distance of school. So let them walk. Give them exercise, freedom, community, fresh air. Get P6s and P7s, brothers and sisters, to walk with P1s and P2s. Or if you’re that scared of kid-snatchers, park at home, walk to the school, and walk home with them, get some exercise and fresh air yourself. Or even better, cycle!

I see literally no downsides to this initiative.

  • I’m glad I read that article, thanks Olap! Very thought provoking and a good mix of perspectives. Strange to read journalism like that now-a-days.

I may be naive or uninformed here because it’s not a topic I have any real knowledge, but this is what I think:

As long as there’s sufficient protections in place to ensure this law can’t be abused by a future arsehole government, to prevent state murder in an attempt to “cull undesirables”. And sufficient protections to ensure patients truly want to die and aren’t just having a low moment (i.e. mental health support) then it’s their life and they should have the choice to live it or not.

The point about normalising assisted dying however is a good one and again there must be protections put in place to ensure people aren’t pushed into assisted dying through guilt or manipulation (from family and friends or doctors and nurses).

An able bodied person already has the right to end their life, because there’s nothing the government can do to stop them jumping off a bridge, overdosing, whatever. The terminally ill unable to do that deserve the right to choose as well.

Our current laws are based upon the Christian sin of suicide, but we’re not all Christian. The law and government must act secularly. If suicide is against your religion, take it up with your priest or God, the law should not be involved.

  • Hey Russia, thoir Ifrinn ort! ‘S e plàigh a th’ annad.

Hey Russia, go to Hell! You are a plague.

This isn’t their first time getting involved in Scottish politics. Remember when Alex Salmond had his own show on Russia Today and then started a right wing party under the name Alba that he couldn’t even pronounce? He pronounced it as an English speaker would read it, Ahl-bah. That’s not how it’s pronounced in Gàidhlig and gave away entirely his lack of honesty to the cause. He just wanted power.
