I have a kobo Clara color. Not sure if you can change the background color, but it has a “dark mode” that inverts the black on white, to white on black. You can also highlight in various colors, change font size, line spacing, margin, and it even comes with the “Open Dyslexic” font.

In Texas, we spent a semester (half the school year) learning Texas history, and the other half the year learning World History. This was during the start of “No Child Left Behind”, so it was basically “memorize the answers to the test”, instead of “actually learn the material”…
