simple@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are American animations more expensive than Asian animations?English47·2 days agoLabor is significantly cheaper in Asia compared to the US. Simple as. If you compare the budget of an anime compared to an average American show, it’s night and day.
This isn’t a good thing. Eastern animators are often overworked and earning less than minimum wage compared to the U.S.

This tool more often than not breaks something and causes issues for people. Somebody I know used it and broke booting into Windows, he had to use a USB anyway to fix the bootloader.

None of that information was ever private, and every user can browse the chat history there.
simple@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source.English6911·6 days agoDoes Lemmy even know what EEE means anymore or are we regurgitating words we heard from some article now?
What’s it going to embrace and extend? WSL has existed for ages and is just a way to run Linux in a convenient container on top of Windows. That’s it. It’s not an attempt to “extenguish” Linux, literally just make the development experience on Windows less painful so people don’t switch to another OS. This has nothing to do with EEE.
Open sourcing it with a permissive license can only be a good thing, and again they’re doing it to be more appealing to devs and maybe get free bug fixes from the open source community. It isn’t some grand conspiracy. But of course this community will react to news of “proprietary blob is now open source” with pessimism.

So 450-500 dollars once they instantly go out of stock and nobody can find them anywhere. I want to be excited but MSRP has been a joke since covid. Either way, the cards look good. i hope they can iron out the driver issues this time around.
The lawsuit started 5 years ago and it’s still not clear when it’ll get resolved or if they’ll even get the money in the end :/
A major investor owes them 10 million dollars they agreed upon but refused to pay after the movie finished shooting.
The movie is mostly finished but postproduction and release stopped until the lawsuit is resolved.

I hope it comes out eventually. The sizzle reel looks fantastic.
simple@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•End of 10 - Windows ten is ending. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again?English501·22 days agoPlease god not the distrochooser site, when someone asks you where to install Linux you send them anything but that.
Context length is disappointing, but the fact that it trades blows with R1 despite being 30B MoE is insane. I’ll wait and see if real-world performance matches up to benchmarks, but it sounds like a big deal.

FYI this article is about a random one called BrandWell, popular AI detectors like GPTZero are much more accurate.
FYI it fails to fetch votes if you don’t include

simple@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?1·9 months agoNuts only make sense in something that’s already hard, like a cookie. It complements it by going from something hard-ish to another hard-ish texture.
Nuts in cake DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. I hate having to chew something smooth and spongy and suddenly - CRONCH. It’s repulsive. 99% of the time it also tastes worse than the cake itself. If you actually want to put nuts on your damn cake, put it on the top so I can slide it off and eat it separately. Thank you.
Yes and there would be a 50% chance it would permanently wreck your PC
