whotookkarl@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which country do you live in and how much paid time off work do you get?3·3 days ago1947 marked a major turning point for workers rights in the US when they outlawed solidarity between unions
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taft–Hartley_Act
The US and France currently both have around 10% union workforce, France is a million times more effective at striking because unions strike together & nonunion workers don’t cross strike lines, coordinated and targeted.
whotookkarl@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which country do you live in and how much paid time off work do you get?3·3 days agoMidwest US at a large nonprofit with ~10% union workers, ~7 hours PTO accrued per 2 week pay period adds up to just over 184 hours or 23 days, and another 14 holidays. PTO accrued was tiny until 5 years seniority, currently at 13 years and I think it caps at 8@20.
I usually take off as much as I can, about a month per year spread out by 1-2 week stretches for a vacation or just to take care of personal work or projects, moves, family stuff, etc.
whotookkarl@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When you are walking outside, do you often look around to make sure no one is following you? Do people normally do this, or am I just paranoid?2·3 days agoDepends on the circumstances. If I’m walking on a street or neighborhood someone told me they got mugged on I’ll be way more aware and observant than otherwise. Same if I’m walking in nature it’s good to look behind regularly to be familiar with how the trail looks both ways so you don’t get turned around on the way back or if there are large predators in the area. If I’m walking around my neighborhood I’ll be much more selective about when I’m more observant because I know where the poorly lit areas and blind corners are, and more so at 2am than 2pm.
It’s buggy but it’s mine, pillars of eternity 2 deadfire
I never really got into the one character party hardest mode min/maxing, but everything else about it is pretty much what I want from an RPG

The rifftrax version is great to break up the slower parts with jokes, but this is definitely up there when I think of mid 20th century b movie sci-fi along with Them! And The Blob
whotookkarl@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you most basic principles for life?3·7 days agoDo what you think is right, but spend some time considering if it’s right or not first.
Recognizing when you’re not considering and just going by intuition or emotional response would probably already put you ahead of most of us.
Empathy seems to be necessary (but I’m not sure if sufficient) for logical moral consideration because you cannot justify your position if you purposefully ignore another’s, and considering someone else’s perspective without prejudice is empathy.

Strawmanning because they won’t or can’t understand your argument, mistaking the map for the place usually because of equivocating on vaguely understood or multiple definitions, non-sequetor this is where someone just yaps for awhile based on the crap that falls out of their head based on the words they heard but didn’t get the point and is barely tracking
