That’s what I fear. I know Carney is smarter than Orange Shitbag, and has some idea of when to fold and when to hold em’. But what he did with the DST could very well embolden Trump to say:
- “No negotiation until you repeal Supply Management!”
- “No negotiation until you make your crossborder water/power agreements fully in our favour!”
- “No negotiation until you pass legislation that gives us free access to data on your citizens!”
- “No negotiation until you sufficiently erode your environment, Indigenous and woke DEI laws!”
- “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure that appeasement has historically gone really well.
It all depends on whether Parliament wants the tariffs gone so badly that they’ll back bad moves by Carney (technically, even the DST hasn’t been repealed yet, because Carney doesn’t have the authority to do that by himself—it’s been paused, but it’s still law until Parliament reconvenes and votes on it). Write your MP. Make it clear to them that you’d rather have tariffs than give in to the US on any of this.
I personally love paying 30$ for a tiny block of nice cheese, it forces me to try alternatives like parbaked transfat instead as my daily snack.
I don’t understand why we are pumping so much money into our dairy industry. Dairy is not a necessary or all that healthy part of the food supply.
Go look at what the US dairy industry looks like. it’s a wasteland of bankrupt farmers that have sold their souls to stay afloat, just so people can get milk a buck a gallon cheaper.
I’ll take the supply management to ensure food safety and security.
